What is a compressed sofa?
A compressed sofa (also called a sofa in a box or vacuum-packed sofa) is a full-size lounge that's been vacuum-sealed at the factory. Pulling the air out shrinks high-density foam to a fraction of its size, so a proper armchair or a whole modular lounge ships in boxes you can carry through a doorway, up apartment stairs, or in the back of a hatchback.
Open the box, cut the seal, and the foam re-inflates before your eyes. Grumpi pieces are sittable in minutes and reach full firmness within 24–48 hours as the foam finishes expanding.
Does compressing a sofa ruin it?
Not if the foam is made for it. Cheap, low-density foam can compress once and never fully bounce back — that's where sofa-in-a-box horror stories come from.
