Vacuum-compressed sofas are changing how Australians buy furniture. Here's how a proper full-size lounge squeezes into a box that fits through your front door — and what to check before you buy one.

What is a compressed sofa?
A compressed sofa (also called a sofa in a box or vacuum-packed sofa) uses foam that's compressed for shipping. The packed box is smaller than the piece that comes out of it. Check each product's carton dimensions against your doorway, stairs, lift or vehicle before you plan delivery.
Unpack it the way the product instructions say, then give the foam 24–48 hours to expand. Read the care and setup guide before you settle in.
Does compressing a sofa ruin it?
Check the expansion instructions and the published evidence. SGS tested Grumpi adult seating to 20,000 seat cycles and 15,000 back cycles at 950N. That's a lab result on the samples tested. It isn't a promise about how many years you'll get. Read the test scope and results.
Why buy a sofa in a box?

What to check before buying
Look for high-density foam (it should state a recovery window, not just "expands fast"), published test results you can actually read, a real warranty, and honest delivery timeframes. If a seller won't say how long the foam takes to fully recover, that's your answer.
